Batman v Superman Review: Don’t listen to the Critics!!! (spoiler free review)

I’ll admit that I was  skeptical about whether or not this one was going to be a success. My initial concerns before seeing the movie were first and foremost that they had shown too much in the trailers and that there wasn’t really going to be a strong story to dive into. Or that the new versions of the characters weren't going to "click"

However having now seen the movie I am happy to say that all my worries were laid to rest. DC has found a way to introduce us into a new and expansive universe that has me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what comes next. The plot, while partly shown in the trailers, still included multiple twists and things that weren’t shown. These key changes made it so I wasn’t exactly sure how things were going to play out, even all the way up till end (which I loved)

I also really liked how they pulled from multiple story lines for inspiration. I won’t say which ones in particular but as a comic fan I definitely appreciated it. I was even more surprised to see what creative liberties they took on said storylines and how they changed them up to keep even diehard fans in the dark.

Ben Affleck in now (as I expected he would be) my hands down favorite batman on screen. (Nobody beats Kevin Conroy though;) He hit all the right elements that every batfan wants to see and took it to the new level we would expect from a modern film. Again without saying too much I am eager to see
more of this character as soon as possible due to the multiple questions that the movie leaves you with (think star wars VII) I love a good mystery about what’s happened in a character’s past and since this version of batman has been around for 20 years now, there’s plenty questions to be had.

Oh (and this is not to be understated)        Wonder Woman is totally awesome! She is definitely not a damsel in distress by any means and they didn’t oversexualize her character while still making it clear that she’s a woman. With her solo film scheduled in the not too distant future I can’t wait to see more of her character and what paths they choose to explore with her.

All in all this movie was very enjoyable to see. It has a dark and gritty tone that perfectly contrasts Marvels lighter take on the Avengers (I love both btw not saying one is better) the fights are absolutely epic, the music is great, and plot has so many places to go from here, I can’t wait to see more!

PS: if any of the lines make you a bit uncomfortable keep in mind who is saying them and whether or not you’re supposed to agree or disagree with them
